Hello. My husband will be transfered with his job to Spokane sometime within the next 2 years. We do not want to live in the city, but maybe somewhere on the out-skirts? Somewhere within a 1 hour drive? We have two elementry school age children, so we of course would like an area with a nice school district. We love the mountain terrain, snow,lake, ect. We are hoping to visit the area this summer. Does anyone have any suggestions? Or, any areas to STAY AWAY from? Thank you in advance for any information.

try Deer Park. It is about 1/2 hour North of spokane. Good place to raise the kids if you dont want to live in spokane

Deer Park is still in Spokane County, which is about to raise property taxes to horrendous levels. Spokane county is also known for corrupt government (listen to Mark Furhman on Spokane's AM 1510), and the Mayor is about to be recalled for carrying on lewd conduct from the mayor's seat. A few minutes north of Deer Park and you'll be in Stevens county with cheap property taxes, cheap land and less crime. I would suggest the Colville area.
